Fatal crash causes Durban gridlock

Durban - A man was killed when he was hit by a car on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near Virginia in Durban North on Friday morning.

The crash caused gridlock traffic in Durban’s northern suburbs.

Three people in the car were also injured.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the pedestrian had been trying to cross the road when he was hit by the car.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the pedestrian lying in the road way having suffered fatal injuries, he was declared dead on arrival,” he said.

“Three occupants from the two vehicles involved suffered injuries in the ordeal, one seriously so and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize her before she was taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” van Reenen said.  

“Traffic was severely affected as the busy highway was closed whilst emergency services worked to clear the scene.”
