Cape Town - Former Western Cape police commissioner Arno Lamoer wants his corruption case dealt with so he can enjoy his retirement, he said on Friday.

“But this is going on and on forever. For me to enjoy my pension, I want this to be finalised,” he said outside the Western Cape High Court following a pre-trial hearing.

Lamoer, Brigadier Kolindren Govender, his wife Sharon, and Brigadier Darius van der Ross allegedly received cash and expensive gifts from businessman Mohamed Saleem Dawjee and his son Zameer, in exchange for special treatment.

They face 109 charges of corruption, racketeering, and money laundering involving approximately R1.6m.

The matter was postponed to May 6.

Lamoer, who retired in November after 35 years of service, after his contract was not renewed, said he was ready for trial.

Retirement was treating him very well.

“I am enjoying it. I have done my bit for the country. Thirty-five years is a long time. I went on retirement after serving this country and its people. And I am very proud to have done that.”

His family were going through agony as the case continued.

“But for me, this is what it is. People tried to put charges against me. The court will decide at the end of the day.”
