Eskom has confirmed that a fire broke out at the Kusile Power Station on Friday evening, but said it had been extinguished with no casualties.

In a statement, the power utility said the fire broke out at Kusile Unit 3's fabric filter plant sometime between 17:30 and 18:30, but was immediately extinguished by the power station's Fire Team.

"The fire has been extinguished with no injuries sustained," Eskom said.

The power utility said the incident was under investigation.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, said the police had not been called to the scene, and no case had been opened.
