Mbombela - A young Working on Fire member who drowned in the Sabie River in Mpumalanga was a well loved and dedicated member of his team, a spokesperson for the organisation said on Thursday.

Andile Prince Nkosi died after slipping on rocks and falling at a low waterfall on a farm near Sabie, where his team was based last week, Linton Rensburg said.

Emergency services were called, but Nkosi did not survive. A post mortem would be conducted to determine the cause of his death and the incident was being investigated.

"Working on Fire is providing support to his family during this difficult time. The team will also be receiving counselling," Rensburg added.

"As a young participant, Andile was well loved by his team members and he had a bright future ahead of him. His departure will leave a void and he will surely be sadly missed by the extended Working on Fire family."
