Johannesburg - A second person has died following a shooting in Fordsburg on Saturday in which a group of men travelling in a bakkie opened fire on another vehicle.

One person was killed on Saturday and police on Monday confirmed that a second victim had since died in hospital.

"The murder investigation is continuing, but the second victim has indeed died after suffering critical injuries," police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo told News24.

Three friends were driving in their vehicle when the occupants of a Toyota Hilux bakkie started shooting at them, before driving off.

The first victim, aged 21, was killed instantly, while his friend died later from his serious wounds. A third occupant was unharmed.

It is believed that there were three men in the bakkie. Unconfirmed reports suggest the two groups had been involved in an altercation earlier. However, police said these details were subject to investigation.

The incident took place on the corner of Hanover and 8th streets around 21:30.

Masondo appealed to anyone with information to contact the police.
