Durban – Two women were convicted and sentenced to life in prison while two others were sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban for trying to perform an exorcism on a teenager, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Fundiswa Faku, 30, and Lindelwa Jalubane, 38, were sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday, Major Thulani Zwane said.

Nokubonga Jalubane, 19, and Minenhle Jalubane, 20, were each sentenced to 12 years.

This followed a murder case stemming from an incident which took place on March 3 2012 when Sinethemba Dlamini, 14, was attacked by the group for allegedly being possessed by a demon. The four convicted of her murder were relatives.

"Fundiswa Faku had arranged a special prayer meeting in order to exorcise demons out of the deceased at J section in Umlazi," said Zwane.

"The accused removed the deceased’s internal organs while she was still alive."
