Four-year-old Thato Mhaula died in hospital on Tuesday morning after he was shot in the head last Wednesday.

The shooting took place at about 7pm during an armed robbery at a spaza shop in South Hills, a Johannesburg suburb.

Thato had been with his older brother when the incident happened.

Sifiso Mtshali, the little boy’s dad, confirmed to YOU that Thato died on Tuesday morning.

“Doctors had told us his condition was critical, He died immediately after we got to the hospital,” Sifiso said. He was too traumatised to say any more.

Thato was put on life support on the evening of the incident.

Video footage published by community newspaper Southern Courier shows the armed robbers entering the shop and ordering shoppers and employees to lie down on the floor while they went on to rob the shop.
