Bloemfontein – A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Free State police said on Tuesday.

He allegedly stabbed and killed the 28-year-old woman at a tavern in Thaba 'Nchu, after accusing her of having an affair with another man, Constable Peter Kareli said.

"It is alleged that the couple had an argument in the early hours of Saturday about cheating, but the matter was not resolved," said Kareli.

On Saturday evening, the man went to the local tavern and found his wife sitting with her friends. He forced her outside, where he allegedly stabbed her twice in the stomach.

He then searched his wife and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, a wedding ring and a cellphone, Kareli said. He was later arrested at his home.

He would appear in the Thaba 'Nchu Magistrate’s Court soon.
