Bloemfontein - A man who raped his two minor daughters and their friends was sentenced to 36 life sentences by the Free State High Court on Thursday, the NPA said.

The Sasolburg man, 42, was convicted of 36 counts of rape, 16 counts of sexual assault, 540 counts of possession of child pornography, 108 counts of distribution of child pornography, and 228 counts of creation of child pornography, National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said.

He cannot be named to protect the victims’ identities.

Judge Jake Moloi sentenced him to 36 life sentences for each count of rape, 10 years for having sex with a minor, five years for each count of sexual assault, 15 years for 542 counts of possession of child pornography, 15 years for 108 counts of distribution of child pornography, and 20 years for 228 counts of creation of child pornography.

He was found in possession of 200 000 photos of children and videos of several children being raped.

He raped his 7-year-old daughter 13 times between July 2009 and March 2012.

In August 2011, he started raping his other daughter, who was 6 at the time. He raped her nine times until May 2014.

He raped his daughters’ friends during sleepovers. They were aged between 5 and 8.
