Cape Town - Another one of Nico Nel's victims has spoken out about how the funny man almost disappeared with a large sum of his pension pay-out.

A retired journalist from Cape Town who wants to remain anonymous told Netwerk24 how the former Maak ’n Las storyteller operates and how he almost lost R50 000 to him.

Shortly before his retirement seven years ago, Nel assured the journalist that he was in charge of the financial affairs of the chairperson of the Naspers board and of other top managers.

Nel was listed as a private financial adviser until 2012 and worked for Old Mutual.

"That was good enough for me and I handed over my pension pay-out, which he invested."

Nel then borrowed money from him, and only repaid the loan after months of pressure to do so.

"I smelt a rat when some of my former colleagues told me Nel borrowed money from them too and never repaid them. I was probably lucky that he had borrowed only R50 000 from me."

He then broke off all contact with Nel. "Nico overwhelms you with his humour. He is a good storyteller. But it seems he doesn't care that we have to eat viennas while he dines on expensive meat."

Another victim, who also wanted to remain anonymous, confirmed that Nel had borrowed about R650 000 from him over a number of years. The man got a tracing agent to locate Nel.

The agent confirmed that Nel had moved to Durbanville, Cape Town. His lawyer, Christie Viviers, will apply for Nel to be sequestrated.

Old Mutual is also investigating Nel.

Nel did not respond to requests for comment.
