Port Elizabeth - A man was injured in a gang-related shooting near a voter registration station in Helenvale, Port Elizabeth, over the weekend, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

The shooting was unrelated to the voter registration, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.

Two men entered a property in Potts Road, Helenvale and shot at a 26-year-old man sitting in the back garden with his friends at 15:20 on Sunday.

He was hit in both legs and his stomach and taken to hospital.

A case of attempted murder was being investigated.

Execution-style shooting

Meanwhile, two men were found murdered execution-style in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, on Sunday morning, News24 reported on Sunday.

The men's bodies were discovered hidden beneath bushes near a pedestrian walkway in Fifth Avenue, Walmer by a private security company.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the victims were aged 20 and 27, and were believed to be residents of the nearby Airport Village informal settlement.

"One man had a single shot to his forehead, the second had three shots to the side of his head," he said.

Labans said the shooting was believed to have taken place on Saturday night between 22:30 and 23:00 as a witness had reported hearing gunshots.

Labans said police had investigated following the initial report, but had not found anything.

He said two unidentified men were seen heading towards the Airport Valley settlement after the initial report of the shooting.
