Johannesburg - A man was killed in Kempton Park on Saturday morning when he was thrown out of his car after it smashed into a tree, said paramedics.

Pictures from the scene show that the front part of the blue Toyota Tazz was completely destroyed in the crash.

"Paramedics were called to the scene around 2:00 and found one of the occupants lying several metres from the vehicle," said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

"Another occupant was also found a few metres away from the vehicle and is being assessed by local provincial emergency services."

One of the men had sustained moderate injuries, while the other was in a critical condition.

The moderately injured man was transported to hospital, while the other needed advanced life support on the scene.

"The critically injured occupant was rushed off to Sunshine Hospital. Shortly after his arrival at hospital, his condition severely deteriorated. Despite the efforts of paramedics and doctors he sadly succumbed to his injuries," said Vermaak.
