Durban - A two-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at a home on Andries Pretorius Road in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that medics as well as police search and rescue officers had rushed to the scene and were led inside to where the girl was lying.

“Paramedics immediately assessed the child and found that she showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the child and she was declared dead on the scene,” he said.

“It is believed that the child had been playing near the pool when she fell in. After some time, one of the family members noticed the child floating in the pool and immediately pulled her out. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations."
