Pretoria - A 6-year-old girl was shot and wounded while she was sleeping with her mother in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria.

Police spokesperson, Constable Tumisang Moloto said the mother heard a loud bang on Tuesday evening while they were sleeping. The loud sound was followed by screams of anguish from the child.

“It is alleged that a woman together with her 6-year-old daughter were sleeping when they heard a loud bang from the roof.

“Her daughter started to scream, that’s when the woman realised her child had been shot on the leg,” he said.

Moloto said police were still trying to establish the motive for the shooting.

No arrests have been made.

A case of attempted murder was opened at Atteridgeville police station for further investigations.
