Engineering company GladAfrica has welcomed a probe into allegations of tender irregularity in the City of Tshwane, saying that it hopes it would clear up doubt about the process followed in a R12bn deal it secured with the City.

"We welcome the council resolution as we believe this will put to rest any doubt regarding the process followed. We offer our full co-operation and support to the process," the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The company added that it decided on September 5 to request the Gauteng Ethics Advisory Council to probe the process undertaken by GladAfrica Project Managers (Pty) Ltd in bidding for the contract.

"It is important to clarify that this is not a request to investigate the process undertaken by the City of Tshwane," it added.

The company said it believed that the process, together with the probe initiated by the City, would bring closure to the matter and help to restore its "good name and reputation built over 16 years".

In August, the City and the GladAfrica were at the centre of allegations of tender irregularity, following a reported R12bn deal it secured to provide project management support to the City

On Monday, the City resolved to institute an investigation into the allegations.

Spokesperson Samkelo Mgobozi said the council also elected to withdraw some of the authority delegated to City manager Moeketsi Mosola and to empower the chief operating officer (COO) to appoint an independent investigator.
