George - The Go George bus service was on Thursday "severely compromised" by an unprotected bus driver strike, the George municipality has confirmed.
Spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose said the bus service was monitoring the situation and supporting George Link, the vehicle operating company, in resolving the dispute.
The company had been engaging with the South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) in an attempt to resolve the matter.
Attempts to reach the union proved unsuccessful.
Siphesihle Dube, spokesperson for Transport and Public Works MEC Donald Grant, said officials in the department were also supporting George Link in resolving the situation.
The nature of the drivers' demands had not yet been confirmed.
The bus service said it would update passengers with the latest information on the status of the strike.
