Pietermaritzburg - A Richmond Mall security guard was thrown into the boot of a car while six men robbed the Richmond Jet Mart stores on New Year’s Day.

The Monitor Net security guard was then released unharmed before the robbers took off with television sets and other electronic goods.

The store’s admin manager, Sam Dlamini, said she was called by the security company at around 1 am on Friday morning alerting her to the robbery.

“When I got to the shop, the police, security company and armed response were already there. I deactivated the alarm and went in with the police and found that TVs and other electronics were stolen,” said Dlamini.

She said the exact number of television sets and other electronics will only be confirmed once the shop conducted their stock take.

Dlamini said the shop’s front door lock was broken and that was how the robbers entered and exited the shop.

“I saw the security guard sitting on the floor. He looked like he was on another planet. He was so traumatised,” said Dlamini.

She said the security guard told them that he was held at gunpoint and shoved in the boot of the car whilst the robbers broke into the shop.

“He said six men entered the shop but we are waiting for the police to complete their investigations. We are not sure of all the details at the moment,” she said.

Provincial police confirmed a case of business robbery was being investigated.
