Soshanguve – An attempted cash-in-transit heist left a guard and a suspect dead at Soshanguve Plaza, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said in a statement that a manhunt had been launched for a second suspect who managed to escape.

A 9mm pistol was recovered from the scene.

"The guards were at the centre to collect cash when they were confronted by the suspects as they were about to collect cash from one of the stores," Dlamini said.

One of the suspects fired a shot and one of the guards returned fire. Both were hit and died at the scene.

No cash was taken.
