Cape Town - One of the two men accused of bludgeoning Kuils River mother Zarah-Jane Hector to death with a hammer has dropped his bid for bail.

Ronaldo van Rooyen, 34, told the court he would be abandoning his bail application when he appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The State is opposing bail for his co-accused Tawfeeq Ibrahim, 26.

Both were arrested after Hector was found dead nine days after being reported missing last month.

She disappeared on March 15 after she left the Oostenberg Lodge in Kuils River where she worked.

The BMW Z3 she was driving was later found in Observatory and her body was discovered on a farm in Groot Drakenstein, nine days after her disappearance.

The two face charges of murder, vehicle robbery and defeating the ends of justice.

While the two appear to have no previous convictions, the State revealed that Van Rooyen has since been charged with an unrelated armed robbery, allegedly committed with a separate accomplice.

A petition was passed around outside the court by family and friends of Hector, wearing pink T-shirts.

Dozens of signatures were collected as the loved ones called for no bail and justice for the 33-year-old mother of two.
