Cape Town – Two members of Franziska Blöchliger’s family have recounted chilling details of how they received calls from her phone while looking for her and hearing a child screaming in the background.

The teenager’s father, Florian, told the Times that he was driving through Tokai Forest looking for her after she went missing on Monday when he got a call from her phone.

Her body was found about half an hour after she went missing.

He said he could only hear “children’s noises, like a child screaming” in the background and he was certain that it was “somebody else’s child”.

The distraught father said Franziska’s grandfather also received calls from her phone. Florian said they tried calling her back but it only rang unanswered.

Three people were arrested for the teenager’s brutal murder, police confirmed to News24 on Wednesday. Forensic expert David Klatzow was also reportedly roped in to help with the investigation.

"Three suspects between the ages of 22 and 27 are being detained for questioning in connection with the murder of Franziska Blöchliger after their arrest last night," said Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut.

The swift arrests come after police had put their “top detectives” to work on the case, News24 reported.

Franziska’s iPhone and her mother’s red tracking watch had apparently been stolen, the Cape Argus reported.

The cellphone was last tracked to the nearby suburb of Westlake on Monday night.
