Johannesburg – What was allegedly believed to be an attempt to kill a gang member if he was released on bail on Friday was foiled by the Hawks in the Durban Magistrate's Court.

Two men, aged 32 and 40, were arrested after information was received that a member of the Wentworth gang was allegedly on his way to the court to kill a person who was due to attend their bail hearing.

“A disruptive operation was swiftly conducted and the vehicle fitting the description was identified in the court parking lot,” spokesperson Captain  Simphiwe Mhlongo said in a statement.

Hawks members requested to search the vehicle and found a 9mm pistol with nine rounds of live ammunition, as well as dagga.

The driver of the vehicle and his accomplice were arrested and are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
