Cape Town – The Hawks in the Western Cape have appealed to the public for information that might lead to the arrest of suspects involved in the killing of Elese Depoutch, a former ANC ward councillor.

"Credible information that would ensure that the gunmen are brought to book will be rewarded," said Captain Philani Nkwalase in a statement on Thursday.

He did not say how much would be offered as a reward.

He said Elese, who was also an ANC provincial executive committee member in the Western Cape, was fatally wounded in Crossroads, outside Cape Town, as he drove into his house with his wife on Tuesday night at about 20:30.

"His wife survived a gunshot wound on her right shoulder," said Nkwalase.

The motive for the killing is a subject of the Hawks investigation, he said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Hawks' investigating officer on 071 481 3415.

ANC Western Cape spokesperson Yonela Diko said: "At this stage we don't want to speculate. We also want the police investigations to come with credible information before we can talk about it further."

In a statement posted on Facebook, provincial ANC officials said Depoutch would be remembered for his resilience, patience and "indomitable spirit".
