Johannesburg - The Soweto Flying Squad recovered a hijacked truck carrying cigarettes after a shoot-out with three suspects in Diepkloof, Johannesburg on Thursday, police said.

The flying squad was patrolling in Zone Five in Diepkloof when they were told to be on the look-out for the hijacked truck, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said.

Makhubela said a shoot-out ensued when police spotted the truck.

One suspect was shot and taken to hospital under police custody.

Two other suspects managed to escape.

None of the police officers were injured. 

A case of hijacking and attempted murder was opened.
