Cape Town – A hiker was injured after slipping and falling approximately 20m down Lion's Head in Cape Town on Thursday morning, said Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR).

"He was able to prevent himself from falling further by grabbing onto bushes and landed up slipping about 20m to 30m down," said WSAR spokesperson Johann Marais.

The man, in his late 30s, was in considerable pain when the medics got to him. He sustained back injuries.

He was extricated by helicopter and rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
