Pietermaritzburg - A Hilton College Grade 11 pupil died in a motorbike accident on Saturday.

Kyle Knoop (17) died after falling off his bike in Cedara. Reports from the scene indicate that he was riding through a forest when he collided with another biker and fell. Netcare911 paramedics stabilised the critically injured boy at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further medical care. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.

“It is with extreme sadness that I inform you of the tragic passing of one of our Grade 11 boys, Kyle Knoop,” said Hilton headmaster Peter Ducasse on the school’s Facebook page.

“We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his parents, Kurt and Kathy, to his brother Robbie and his sister Rachael, at this sad time. Please hold the Knoop family up in your thoughts and prayers,” the Facebook post continued.

Posts from Kyle’s family and friends flooded Facebook, with messages offering the family love, strength and support.

A post from Kamfwa Anne Vibetti referred to Kyle as “a brilliant young man”.

According to the Hilton College Facebook page, details about a memorial service would be confirmed later.
