Johannesburg - A horse was rescued from a drain inspection hole in Tembsia after it had been missing for three days, paramedics said on Wednesday.

The owner contacted local authorities and an Urban Search and Rescue Team were dispatched to the area to rescue the horse, Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.

“The team had to use a carborandum cutter, a concrete chainsaw, a generator, a TLB tractor and a jack hammer amongst other equipment to free the horse,” Mathe said.

Netcare 911 paramedics supplied them with a generator and a stethoscope to monitor the horse’s heart rate.

The horse was rescued after four hours and taken to The Society for Animals in Distress for further medical care.
