Housebreaking suspect shot and killed in Durban

Police are investigating a murder after a suspected housebreaking assailant was shot and killed in Newlands West, Durban on Friday.

According to police sources, the victim of the housebreaking shot the man, injuring him in his thigh as he fled the scene in Wadfield Crescent. It is believed that the assailant bled to death. 

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the police's search and rescue team recovered the body in dense bush below an 800 metre slope.

The team had to use a rescue stretcher to recover the body and carry it back to the roadway.

"A murder docket has been opened at Newlands police station," he said.
