Melmoth – Buses ferrying hundreds of people have started to arrive at the Melmoth Sports Grounds in KwaZulu-Natal where President Jacob Zuma is expected to address a drought Imbizo.

Zuma is visiting the drought stricken uThungulu District, which Nkandla District Municipality falls under, to monitor the delivery of water services, the Presidency said.

The president is also expected to launch a drought relief programme in the area as part of government’s efforts to support areas that have been severely affected by the drought.

Rebecca Mtshali, 42, said she had braved the rain just to hear Zuma address the community.

The woman who came from Ngwelezane said she had not yet been affected by the drought but expected Zuma to provide solutions that could help affected communities.

Martha Zungu from Ndundulu said she too had not been affected by the drought.

“We just need electricity,” said the 70 year-old.
