Johannesburg - KwaZulu-Natal realtor Penny Sparrow says she has been left destitute and in fear for her life. She also has no idea how she is going to raise the R150 000 she has been ordered to pay to charity.

"Right now I have R55 in my account to last the rest of the month. I don't know what I am going to do. I am going to try and appeal the case and see if I can get a hearing," she said.

News24 tracked down Sparrow, who has been in hiding since she made a controversial Facebook post in January, to her safe-house in Johannesburg.

"I have two sons who have helped me with food and airtime and they have their own lives and they are not doing well. I will have to perhaps ask one of them if they can afford to fly me to KZN to see what I can do and maybe get some legal aid. I don't know what the implications are if I don't pay it," she said.

"I have nothing, I am what you call a poor white and I really have nothing and I don't know what to do."

She said that she was not hopeful about the future and was homeless.

"The future holds nothing for me and I have no home... there is no home... it is hopeless. It is not as if the black people of Scottburgh are aggressive with me, but some people are," she said.

"I believe some people have tried to raise money for my fine, but I don't know anything about the money, who is doing it or where it is going."

She said she had already made a raft of apologies to the media and hadn't meant to insult anybody.

"I really didn't mean it... I am so sorry it was taken in the wrong context," she said.
