Bloemfontein - An ambitious Grade 1 pupil from Bloemfontein has already decided what job she will do when she finishes her education.

"I want to be a kids' doctor when I grow up, because I don't like seeing kids getting sick," said 6-year-old Tshego Moalosi.

The Universitas primary school in Bloemfontein welcomed more than 130 pupils for their first day of school on Wednesday.

Parents expressed mixed emotions as they left their children behind. The father of 6-year-old Ruan Liebenberg said his son had been nagging him throughout the holidays about when school was going to start.

"I am nervous and excited at the same time but I know he will be fine - we will see how the day goes," said father Ehan Liebenberg.
