Mbombela - The advocate attacked for representing two alleged child killers in Tonga last week, did not attend court on Wednesday, but instead arranged for the case to be transferred to the Nelspruit Regional Court.

The National Prosecution Authority had agreed to the transfer, he said.

"I did not attend the case at Tonga because I am still scared. I have only arranged for a new date via the phone.”

Tonga residents attacked and throttled Nico Du Plessis with his tie after the court appearance on Thursday, January 21.

He was representing Themba Myambo and Jabulani Ndlovu, who, along with two others, were accused of murdering a 3-year old in Nkomazi. The child's body had not been found.

Tonga police spokesperson Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyathi said police were at the Tonga courthouse to ensure order on Wednesday.

Residents sang "threatening songs" outside the court, but nobody was attacked or injured, he said.

The case was postponed to February 21, when the accused would apply for bail.
