Racism reared its head again on Thursday with news that the owner of a guesthouse in Sodwana Bay in Kwazulu-Natal had refused to accommodate people because they were black. The owner, Andre Slate, said he believed the Bible stated that people must be separated according to their race.

The Guptas could soon find a solution from being blacklisted by South Africa’s leading banks by buying their own bank.

It is speculated that Ubank, which is in need of a recapitalisation plan, seems to be the likely target, however the Chamber of Mines said UBank will not require help from the Guptas. The National Union of Mineworkers is adamant that the Gupta-owned Oakbay Investments won’t buy UBank, in which it has a 50% stake.

Oakbay CEO Nazeem Howa slammed media reports about an approach to buy UBank as "speculation", with "several significant untruths and misunderstandings".

Meanwhile, the department of communications is confident of winning its Constitutional Court appeal against encryption of set top boxes.

The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled recently that the decision by Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to drop encryption from the STBs amid a roll-out of digital terrestrial television was flawed.

The SCA ruling was a victory for free-to-air broadcaster which insists on encryption to provide “high quality content” on digital STBs. However, Naspers-owned pay-TV provider MultiChoice and the department have launched a Constitutional Court appeal on the SCA ruling.

Ben Affleck appeared on the premiere of sports columnist Bill Simmons talk show, Any Given Wednesday and things got out of control. The actor fumed about "deflategate", a term used to refer to American football inflation, or the lack thereof.

What made this unusual however was how worked up Affleck appeared to be as well as his slurred speech. According to TMZ, sources close to Affleck say he was sober and as for the slurring, Ben is just passionate about the subject being discussed.

LISTEN: Cassper gets interviewed by American DJ Sway

On Wednesday night at 7:30 South African time and (mid-morning in America) Cassper sat down with American, DJ Sway, to talk music, Africa and making it. To start off Cassper’s segment radio DJ, Sway, talked about hip-hop and its ties to Africa. He then listed Cassper’s achievements from platinum records, to selling out the dome and making his mark as an independent artist. In the interview, Cassper opens up to Sway about how his parents being teachers afforded him a certain level of protection when hanging out with the thugs in the hood where he grew up.
