As we move out of the El Niño weather system and into a La Niña, South Africa's drought-stricken areas could be in for some welcome rainfall. What are the current dam levels in SA, compared to last year? eNCA's Candice McKechnie explains. Watch. WATCH

Cape Town – The inter-ministerial committee set up to find ways of dealing with the drought affecting the country is expected to provide an update of its work on Thursday.

In June, a state of disaster was declared in all provinces, except Gauteng.

At the time, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen said the drought was due to below-average rainfall, increased maximum temperatures, and heatwaves.

Water restrictions have been implemented in various parts of the country.
