Zuma smiles as Joemat-Petersson disses Malema

2016-02-17 18:55

Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson issued a slew of insults at EFF leader Julius Malema during her speech on day two of the SONA debate. "This naughty boy attracts others," says Joemat-Petersson. She also called Malema a "hooligan" and "copycat" but the EFF leader was not in the house to respond.WATCH

Cape Town  DA MP Zak Mbhele has told the ANC that it was not the party's money they had spent when they boasted of their achievements, but that of South Africa's taxpayers.

"That is money that comes from all the citizens of the country who are paying for that investment," said Mbhele.

He spoke towards the end of a heated programme of responses to President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation Address.

Mbhele took Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane to task over comments that people in affluent suburbs were wasting water on their gardens and filling their Jacuzzis.

He said ministers themselves lived in leafy Newlands, and Mokonyane had once had repairs worth R500 000 done to her own pool at government expense.

"All that money, and it wasn't even for drinking water," said Mbhele.

He listed towns around the country that did not have water, after Mokonyane said the country's dams were at 53% capacity.

Mbhele got a standing ovation after his address.
