Jeffreys Bay - An off-duty policewoman from Jeffreys Bay was shot dead allegedly by her security guard husband after a heated argument on Thursday morning. The husband's body was also found at the scene.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said the two were believed to have argued in the early hours of Thursday morning at the 36-year-old woman's home in Strelitzia Street.

Swart said police were called to the scene after shots were heard.

"On arrival, police found both victims with gunshot wounds, and both were declared dead on the scene," she said.

Swart said Jeffreys Bay Police were investigating a case of murder and had also opened an inquest.

The names of the deceased would be released after their next-of-kin were informed.

Humansdorp Cluster Commander Brigadier Neil Jantjies said: "We are still in shock and very sad about the loss of our own member under very tragic circumstances.

"We express our deepest condolences to their families, friends and colleagues. Our hearts go out to their loved ones and we will remember them in our prayers."
