2018-09-17 16:11

Drunk driving is the single biggest violation in Johannesburg, according to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department's crime statistics for the period January to August 2018. Here's everything you need to know.WATCH

A Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) warden may have morphed into superwoman on Sunday, as she arrested two suspects for different crimes in quick succession.

According to JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, the warden chased down and arrested a 26-year-old suspect after he alleged grabbed her phone in the Johannesburg central business district.

"The  suspect grabbed the warden's cellphone from her pocket as she was walking in full uniform. She immediately gave chase and arrested him.

As the traffic warden walked the suspect to a nearby mobile police trailer, she spotted a woman cutting another woman's handbag straps with a razor blade and stealing her purse, Minnaar said.

"The traffic warden left the first suspect at the police trailer and went for the female suspect, whom she also arrested."

Both suspects were charged at Johannesburg Central Police Station.

The female suspect was also charged for bribery, because she tried to bribe the traffic warden with an amount of R1 563.
