Durban - Fire-fighters are expected to be on standby for most of the night dealing with “hot spots” on the Karbonkelberg mountainside after a fire broke out on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier helicopters had been used to douse the blaze, with ground crews managing to contain the largest part of the fire.

City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Director Richard Bosman confirmed that the fire at no point threatened any homes on the mountain.

In a status update message, Bosman said: “[The] fire has been contained. Choppers have left the scene. Still numerous hot spots. All crew will be required for some time.”
