Kimberley - A missing person case in Kimberley has resulted in the grisly discovery of a man's body in an open field, Northern Cape police said.

One person has since been arrested.

"Police have arrested a 23-year-old man and charged him with kidnapping and murder," said Captain Olebogeng Tawana in a statement.

The arrest is in connection with the disappearance of Gershwin Swartz, 24, who was last seen on July 11 after he left his parent's home in Kimberley in a Volkswagen Polo – but never returned.

Two days later, he was reported missing.

After police launched a manhunt, Swartz's blue Polo was found parked at a house in Newpark, Kimberley.

Police later established that this was the house of the girlfriend of the man who has since been arrested.

"Further investigation led the police to Galeshewe, where the suspect was arrested," Tawana said.

The arrest took place on Friday and, on the same day, the suspect took police to a section of veld outside a local shooting range where Swartz's body was recovered. He had been stabbed multiple times.

The murder-accused will appear in court on Monday.
