Kleinmond 'looked like a warzone'

Cape Town - Large scale violent protests have been taking place in Kleinmond in the Western Cape.

A senior Netwerk24 photographer was assaulted and robbed of all his belongings by protesters in Mooi Uitsig, Kleinmond, on Wednesday.

"They kicked me in the face and hit me against the head with a stone. They surrounded me, everything was grabbed from my body. They fled towards the mountains," Jaco Marais told Netwerk24.

On Thursday News24's Nick Pawson and Caryn Dolley headed to Kleinmond to report from the frontlines. Several shops were closed in Kleinmond on Thursday. Resident told News24 it looked like "a warzone" the previous day. A joint operations centre has been set up in Kleinmond so authorities can strategise on how to deal with violent protests.
