Johannesburg – The Johannesburg Metro Police Department on Wednesday urged motorists to avoid Boundary and Union roads in Kliptown due to protest action.
JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar told News24 that the situation was tense with protesters throwing rocks at passing vehicles.
Six people have already been arrested for public violence.
"We urge motorists to avoid the area at the Kliptown circle," Minnaar said.
Protesters have also blocked train lines in the area causing the trains to stop running while most stores in the area were also closed.
It is believed that residents are protesting against poor service delivery.
