Cape Town - Two trail runners were held up by three "knife-wielding thugs" at SANParks’ Vlakkenberg area in Hout Bay at the weekend, its management confirmed on Monday.

SANParks spokesperson Merle Collins said the two were robbed by the trio at about 10:30 on Saturday morning.

"No injuries were sustained by the runners," Collins said.

"The matter has been reported to the Diep River police. [SANParks] is working closely with SAPS to try and apprehend the suspects."

No other incidents have taken place in this vicinity in the last year, Collins said.

"We are constantly improving and adapting our safety and security efforts because it is well known that crime displacement does occur.

"As a member of the Table Mountain Safety Forum, we are part of group which includes SAPS, [the Department of] Community Safety, other law enforcement agencies and civil society who pool resources to curb crime in the national park. This relationship is working well and we will continue with it," she added.
