Residents from the greater Kraaifontein area in the Western Cape on Friday called on police to respond to their pleas for help against gangsterism.

"Gunshots ringing through the air in Scottsdene can be heard almost every day and night as gang activity is increasing", said Peter Syster in statements issued on behalf of the Community of the Greater Kraaifontein Homeless Residents, as well as the Oostenberg Development Forum.

He said a number of demands were being put to the SA Police Services to assist in alleviating the problem.

This included more police visibility in the area, the establishment of a satellite station, an investigation into allegations of corrupt police officials and the completion of certain investigations from the past.

A response was called for within seven days.
