Durban – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has urged members of the public who have not registered to vote for the local government elections to do so.

ANC provincial spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli said on Monday was the final day to register and that people had until 17:00 to visit the Independent Electoral Commission's offices to register and check their details on the voters' roll.

Provincial secretary Super Zuma said: "Although we are satisfied with voter registration turn out in the previous voter registrations, we are determined to mobilise more people, especially the youth and first-time voters, to register to vote in the upcoming local government elections."

Zuma said the party's main focus was to ensure an overwhelming victory on August 3.

"Importantly, 16 years into local government, the ANC-led municipalities have taken great strides in unshackling our people from the yoke of underdevelopment."

Zuma said millions of houses had been built for the poor and that people now had access to clean water.

He said the ANC was the only organisation capable of changing the lives of ordinary people.
