Durban – The ANC Youth League has disbanded its regional executive committees in the Abaqulusi and Musa Dladla regions in KwaZulu-Natal, it said on Thursday.“They were unable to convene ordinary meetings. In order for them to hold ordinary meetings we had to deploy people to those regions to deal with the program of action of mobilising young people. So they had become very dysfunctional,” provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo told reporters. He was briefing media on the league’s provincial executive committee meeting, held in Ulundi on Friday. The committee decided to establish task teams to rebuild dysfunctional and paralysed party structures. He admitted there had been infighting in the regions.“There was infighting in both regions and one side was pulling in one direction and the organisation was being torn apart.”He said the youth league in the province was not divided and the decision to disband the regions was taken in the presence of both its leaders. Nobody had been suspended or expelled. An ANCYL source who did not want to be named said there were problems in the Far North region which related to the provincial conference scheduled for June next year. He said ambitious members were mobilising support so they could be part of the ANCYL’s national structure.
