Durban – KwaZulu-Natal Correctional Services regional commissioner Mnikelwa Nxele has been suspended with immediate effect.

"Mr Nxele’s suspension follows allegations of acts of gross insubordination, as well as failure to implement instructions of the national office. Disciplinary processes are under way," national commissioner Zach Modise said in a statement on Friday.

No further details would be made public as it was a matter between Nxele and Correctional Services, Modise said.

Department spokesperson Logan Maistry said the allegations involved gross negligence.
