Durban – A man allegedly murdered his girlfriend during an argument in Shakaskraal, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The crime prompted acting provincial police commissioner Major General Bheki Langa to call for people to ensure such crimes did not happen.

"We always say no abuse to women and children, and those who are still abusing them will face the long arm of the law."

The 44-year-old man allegedly stabbed the woman, 37, on Tuesday, police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said.

When police arrived on the scene, they were told that the man was still armed. Police ordered him to come out of the dwelling, but he ignored them. A police dog was eventually used to help arrest him.

A knife was found in his possession.
