Durban – A 39-year-old man has been arrested for being in possession of dagga with a street value of R300 000, police say.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the man was arrested on Thursday in Ntabamhlophe, north of KwaZulu-Natal, after nine bags of dagga were found in the double cab bakkie he was driving.

“He was arrested during an intelligence driven multi-disciplinary crime prevention operation conducted by Ntabamhlophe police and Ezemvelo Wildlife,” Zwane said.

The driver's vehicle was also impounded, he said.

“The suspect is expected to appear at the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court for possession of dagga on Friday,” he said.

Pongola police meanwhile arrested four people who were found in possession of six bags of dagga with a total street value of R100 000 on Wednesday night.

“Two other suspects who were hitch-hiking in Pongola on Wednesday night were arrested after police found them in possession of 6kg of dagga each,” Zwane said.

KZN acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa said police will continue with such operations in the province to get rid of drugs.
