Durban – A man has been killed after being struck by lightning near Dundee in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said the man who died was in his 40s and was near the Chief Sithole area.

"Over 15 other people have been transported to hospital in the Umzinyati district following lightning strikes from a storm in the area."

In an unrelated incident on Tuesday, Mckenzie said paramedics were responding to a report of a drowning at a river near Muden near Greytown.

He advised people to stay indoors and to avoid bathing or showering during storms. He also said doors and windows should be shut.
