KZN man rescued after being trapped under sand for an hour

Durban – A KwaZulu-Natal man has been rushed to hospital after a sand bank collapsed near Phoenix, north of Durban, trapping him for an hour.

Prem Balram, head of private security company Reaction Unit South Africa, said the man had been dug out and received medical treatment from an ambulance service based in Phoenix.

"He was transported to hospital for moderate injuries and further medical assessment."

It is believed that the injured man and several friends were manually excavating sand from a bank next to a stream when it collapsed.

"The victim was trapped under the sand for approximately one hour before he was dug out by his friends and members of the community," Balram said
