Dundee – Twenty-four-year-old convicted rapist Zamani Radebe was on Friday sentenced to serve four life terms, and a further 45 years imprisonment.

Radebe’s sentence follows his conviction on eight counts of rape and kidnapping in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

According to police spokesperson Major Shooz Magudulela they have been attempting to track Radebe for a number of years before he was finally arrested at a construction site in Dundee in November 2015.

"The DNA results confirmed that the accused was the one who had been terrorising women in Dundee from 2009 to 2015," Magudulela said in a statement.

Radebe would apparently follow women who were on their way home from taverns.

KwaZulu-Natal commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the heavy sentence.

"This will send a strong message to other criminals who are raping women in our province," Ngobeni said.
